Africa - Development Sites List

Association for Progressive Communications (APC) is a global network of networks whose mission is to empower and support organizations, social movements and individuals through the use of information and communication technologies to build strategic communities and initiatives for the purpose of making meaningful contributions to human development, social justice, participatory democracies and sustainable societies. Composed of a consortium of 25 international member networks, APC offers vital links of communication to over 50,000 NGOs, activists, educators, policy-makers, and community leaders in 133 countries. The main purpose of the APC member network is to develop and maintain the informational system that allows for geographically dispersed groups who are working for social and environmental change to coordinate activities on-line at a much cheaper rate than can be done by fax, telephone, or for-profit computer networks. INCORE
INCORE, the Initiative on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity, is a joint initiative of the University of Ulster and the United Nations University. The INCORE Internet Service is intended to act as a central resource on the internet for those in the area of conflict resolution and ethnic conflict. It is intended to serve not only academic researchers but also policy-makers and practitioners in mediation. The INCORE Internet Service has strong links with CAIN, (Conflict Archive on the Internet), which provides information about conflict in Northern Ireland.

Institute of Global Communications (IGC)
It provides human rights information on the Internet, including relief and humanitarian aid efforts. It features actions alerts, human rights news and recent developments, documents & clearinghouses, organizations, including children's rights.

Institute for War & Peace Reporting
The Institute for War & Peace Reporting is an independent conflict-monitoring and media-supporting charity working to inform the international debate on conflict and provide a platform and other support for voice of moderation amid war. Its publications include war reports, tribunal, tribunal update and media monitoring. The web site features information and related links.

InterAction
InterAction is a coalition of over 160 US-based nonprofit organizations working to promote human dignity and development in 165 countries around the world. It describes itself as the nation's leading advocate for humanitarian aid to the world's poorer countries. The web site features information on development, refugees, disaster, advocacy and more. International Relations and Security Network (ISN)
The International Relations and Security Network (ISN) is an Internet-based initiative to promote the free flow of unclassified information in the field of international relations and security policy. It was started in 1994, as a result of the first international conference on "Institutes and the Security Dialogue" held in Zurich. ISN is a daily updated, searchable clearinghouse for resources in the field of security and defense studies, peace and conflict research, and international relations. It is organized in a subject and a regional listing, covers current issues and links to related research institutions. Special directories include a conference agenda and a register of electronic discussion.

Official Web Site Locator for the UNITED NATIONS System of Organizations
It provides an alphabetic index of the United Nations System of Organizations with their abbreviations and city locations of headquarters sites; an explanation of the various categories of the United Nations Organizations, together with a listing of which UNOs comprise each category. It provides access to frequently requested information; conference schedules; library and documentation services; press releases; the role of the organization; publications sales catalogues; and vacancy notices for international staff. It also includes a system-wide searching and UN-related Information.

OneWorld Online
OneWorld Online is a partnership of over 100 organizations working for human rights and sustainable development in order to broadcast an alternative world agenda for a fairer world. The web site is linked to 120 web sites of member organizations (alone this makes the visit worth your while) in 124 countries featuring 50,000 pages.
