| Joel R. Charney is policy director of Oxfam America, a private, non-profit international agency that funds self-help development in poor nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He has been working with Oxfam America since 1980, serving as Southeast Asia projects officer, Asia regional director, and overseas director. Charny has written extensively on relief and development issues, especially those related to Asia. His opinion pieces have appeared in a number of major newspapers, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, International Herald Tribune, and Wall Street Journal. | |
