Edward R. Girardet has been an independent journalist and producer since 1989, covering international current events, development, and environmental issues for European and North American broadcasters. Girardet has had recent assignments with the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, Britainæs Channel Four, and various European networks, with documentary and magazine segments in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. He edits CROSSLINES Global Report, a Geneva-based independent news journal on humanitarian action, development, and global issues. Girardet has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the Sigma Delta Chi Award for distinguished reporting (1985), an Overseas Press Club citation for the best foreign coverage (1987), and a Freedom House Award for distinguished reporting. He is editing a book on media and war in Somalia and Rwanda.
