Robert I. Rotberg is president of the World Peace Foundation. He also is a research associate at the Harvard Institute for International Development and teaches third world politics at the Kennedy School of Government. Rotberg was professor of political science and history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1968-87) and became academic vice president of Tufts University and president of Lafayette College before returning to Cambridge. He is the author of more than two dozen books and numerous articles on the politics of Africa, especially South Africa, and on the politics of Haiti.
