Peter Shiras is director of government relations and public outreach for InterAction, a coalition of more than 150 U.S.-based relief and development organizations. Prior to joining InterAction, he served for thirteen years in various capacities for the Catholic Relief Services, most recently as director for public policy liaison and senior director for Africa. Before coming to Catholic Relief Services, Shiras was an agricultural economist for several organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank, the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture, and Oxfam (U.K.). He has published numerous articles in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and elsewhere.
